A common browser-caching bug that I’ve seen over multiple versions in the 6.4 family of Sitecore CMS products is fairly simple to address. I’ve noticed it happens most often when you’re accessing the same website/CMS across multiple environments. So for example when you’re working in development but also using other browser windows to open a staging and live environment CMS login for the same website.
One end-user report best describes the behaviour.
“Any time I try to click on an item in the tree (for example, ‘Test Lab’ in the screenshot below), the right hand pane remains blank, and the ‘Sitecore’ item in the file tree remains highlighted.“
It can also manifest as sudden, repeated Javascript bugs, for example while uploading images in IE, you’ll recieve a pop-up warning of a script error.
The fix is simply to clear the browser cache. For example in Internet Explorer, hitting CTRL+SHIFT+Delete will bring up the ‘Delete browsing history’ window.

Internet Explorer window to clear browsing history; select just ‘Temporary Internet Files’ to address the problem.
The same shortcut will bring up a similar window in other browsers. Clearing the browser cache and reloading the page will usually address this problem and associated, seemingly random Javascript errors in the CMS. This bug is very common and has been encountered in Internet Explorer and Chrome.
